Intercom with Webflow
Intercom with Webflow
Intercom is one of the heaviest things people bolt onto a marketing site, and it usually loads in full for every visitor including the ones who never open it. I wire it so the launcher is there instantly and the rest arrives only when someone actually wants to talk.
Support work like this usually takes 2–4 days
What the integration covers
What syncs, and what needs a decision.
Wired up
- The messenger loaded on interaction rather than on every page view
- Visitor attributes passed through, so a conversation starts with context
- Logged-in users identified with a verified hash rather than a raw email
- Targeting rules kept to the pages where a conversation is actually useful
- Consent respected, so the widget does not load before the banner is answered
Flagged upfront
- Loaded the default way, the messenger is usually the largest script on the page
- Identity verification needs a small server component; without it the identity is spoofable
- Installed the usual way it sits in Webflow's site-wide footer code, so it appears on every page including the ones where it competes with the page's own call to action
The messenger is the most expensive widget most marketing sites carry, and the default install loads all of it for every visitor. I replace the launcher with a lightweight stand-in and load the real thing on the first click, which keeps the option visible without paying for it on every page view.
Context is what makes the conversation useful. Which pages someone read, which plan they were looking at and where they came from all travel with them into the inbox, so the first reply does not start by asking what they are here for.
For anyone signed in, identity is verified with a server-side hash. Without it, a user identity is a claim the browser makes and anyone can make it, which is the sort of thing nobody notices until it matters.
